Hwang Yoo-min, Bang Shin-sil 'meet the right people' to win KLPGA Tour by one stroke
A 'long-hitting rookie' is battling for the title at the Korea Ladies Professional Golf (KLPGA) Tour's Dongbu Fire-Korea Land Trust Championship, a modified stableford event featuring 'attacking golf'.

In the third round of the tournament at Iksan Country Club (Par 72) in Iksan-si, Jeollabuk-do, on the 14th, rookie Hwang Yoo-min, the third-ranked golfer in the tournament, added five points to take her tournament total to 31 points, continuing her lead from the previous day.

The Dongbu Construction-Korea Land Trust Championship uses a modified Stableford format to determine the standings.

Instead of stroke totals, players are awarded eight points for an albatross, five for an eagle and two for a birdie, while a bogey is worth -1 and a double bogey or worse is worth -3.
This favours the aggressive player.

Attack golf's leading birdie-per-round player, Hwang Yoo-min, held a two-shot lead at the mouth-watering variant of the Stableford event and looked set for a second win of the season, three months after her first career victory at the Daewoo Women's Open in July.

However, Hwang faced a strong challenge from fellow Rookie of the Year contender Bang Shin-sil, who has burst onto the scene with her exceptional long game.

While Hwang faltered on the day with just four birdies and three bogeys, Bang swept in an eagle, six birdies and two bogeys for a whopping 15 points.

He trails Hwang Yoo-min by just one point and they will meet in the Champions Group in the final round on Friday.

Bang will be looking to make it two wins in a row after winning the E1 Charity Open in May.

Bang stunned the field on the 17th hole (par-5) with her second shot from 207 yards out, putting the ball on the green and sinking a five-foot eagle putt.

Bang, the KLPGA Tour's longest hitter, is second in eagles (six) and third in birdies behind Hwang Yoo-min.

"I didn't play too badly, but I was frustrated yesterday because I ran out of luck and it didn't work out," said Hwang. "My tee shot, which was shaky, improved today. However, I think I need to refine my wedge shot a bit more and create more birdie chances. I missed a lot of putts, so I'll have to work on my putting today."

Hwang Yoo-min, who faced fellow Rookie of the Year contender Kim Min-byul in the final day's championship group when she won her first title, said, "If it's the first or second round, I'll be happy to play, but tomorrow is the final round and I want to win."

Currently, Kim Min-byul is in first place, Hwang Yoo-min in second, and Bang Shin-sil in third in the Rookie of the Year race.

"I was able to score a lot of points because my mid- and long-range putts were falling well, and I was able to finish on a high note thanks to my eagle on the 17th hole," said Bang. "I think I can play comfortably and enjoy myself because I've played with the national team, but I'm trying to focus on my game rather than being conscious of other players."

"I will play as aggressively tomorrow as I did today," said Bang.

Tied for third place (26 points) were Lee Somi, who had one eagle, seven birdies and two bogeys, and Lee Seung-yeon, who had five birdies.

Lee Ye-won, the winner of the prize money and first prize, finished in a tie for 45th place (12 points) and will have to settle for a fourth win of the season.

Defending champion Lee Ga-young also entered the final round in a tie for 50th place (11 points), effectively ending her two-game winning streak. 카지노사이트
